The announcement
iGaming Ontario is supporting the Responsible Gambling Council’s 2026–27 Post-Secondary Campus Tour. The agency says the partnership expands the programme from 20 to 40 publicly funded Ontario campuses and creates an opportunity for up to 10,000 student interactions. Those are planned opportunities, not a reported total of completed interactions.
What the programme covers
The tour combines prevention conversations, answers to students’ questions and information about support resources. It includes BetGuard, Ontario’s centralized tool for opting out of regulated online gambling. A physical activity called Random Tower is also used to communicate harm-reduction messages.
The Canadian context
This is a public education initiative in Ontario, rather than a change to gambling licensing or a national programme. Its importance lies in bringing information about opting out into a setting where students can ask questions. The primary announcement describes the partnership; it does not present a measured evaluation of the tour’s impact.
EDITORIAL CONTEXT
Reach and effectiveness are different measures. A future assessment would ideally explain how many students participated, what they understood and whether they knew where to find support afterwards. An expansion in campus coverage alone cannot establish those outcomes. Readers can follow the agency’s original announcement for programme updates.
