INDUSTRY ANALYSIS / EXPLAINER
The 2026 industry agenda: design, oversight and destination investment
Three themes to follow across the year’s official announcements, without treating forecasts as facts.

A reading framework for the year
This is an editorial framework for following the industry, not a market forecast or a ranked prediction. Three useful lines of inquiry run through our reporting: how products communicate risk, how public agencies measure activity and how large destinations move from planning to delivery. Each theme requires a different kind of evidence.
Design as a regulatory question
Product interfaces deserve attention beyond display size and visual spectacle. How a system communicates time, spending and outcomes is a legitimate reporting question. The British machine standards announcement is one example of a regulator addressing design. It should be understood within its jurisdiction, rather than as evidence that all countries are adopting the same approach.
Better questions about market size
Market data is most useful when scope and definitions travel with the headline. As readers encounter more dashboards and downloadable workbooks, the editorial challenge is to explain what is counted. Our Ontario reporting illustrates why a local market series should retain its exclusions and revision notes. Clearer presentation can improve understanding without implying certainty about causes.
Investment is a sequence of milestones
A resort development moves through approvals, site preparation, construction, fit-out and operation. Transport and other external works may be just as relevant as a tower’s height. A dated company statement is one point in that sequence. Readers should look for later disclosures before treating an earlier opening target or progress claim as current.
How to follow these themes
Use regulatory notices for changes in obligations, agency reports for market definitions and company filings for management’s project statements. Product press releases reveal intended roadmaps, but they are not independent product reviews. Reading across these document types creates a more balanced picture than collecting optimistic forecasts alone. Our news archive links the evidence for each story so that this process remains inspectable.
